Every year in the UK, around 250,000 pregnancies end before 24 weeks.

The most common reason for this is miscarriage. This type of loss has major impacts on people, society and the economy.

For example, research has estimated that the short-term costs of miscarriage to the UK are £471 million per year. This figure rises to over £1 billion when including long-term health impacts.

That’s a similar amount to prostate cancer, which is estimated to cost the UK economy about £800 million per year.
